Will Wright held a workshop at 11:45 Monday before the E3 opened their doors. It was entitled From Sputnick to Spore: Will Wright's new way of game creation." Gamasutra published a great article on May 9th, written by Frank Cifaldi. It is entitled E3 Workshop: Will Wright Discusses Innovation, Ideas, and the Nintendo Wii. The article has some insight as to why the release date has been pushed back so much. I quote:
Surprisingly, Wright revealed that a big part of the design process of Spore is from game players at large, particularly those in vocal internet communities. "We want the players to be able to map their own expectations into this," Wright said. "And we talked to players and listened to what they're saying, when they talk about how they're going to play the game, and reading message boards. So really the players are designing the game. For example they'll say 'Oh I can't wait to do this' and we'll go 'Oh, we'd better put that in the game now.'"
Here is another article concering the workshop. It was published by USAToday.com on May 8th 2006 and written by Mike Snider. It is entitled You say you want an evolution? Try your hand at 'Spore', and has a very cool screenshot I hadn't seen before.
EA has released a new video on Spore to get us psyched about E3! It was found on YouTube.com and has the following description: "This is unedited footage of Spore that will be going to TV networks covering E3 next week." In it we see their amazing creature editor, creature interactions, and what it is like to fly around as a UFO. The gameplay looks quite amazing and some of the worlds we see are truly mystical. It comes to show us that anything is possible when you use your imagination! At the end of the video we also see a new logo for Spore. There is only gameplay, and no voice narration.
